The RasPi case

Assembling the RasPi case

This page is intended to help those who have ordered a RasPi case or wish to read about how it fits together.

As of 7th August 2012, I have stocks of cases in for immediate despatch:

Costs: UK including delivery £12.50. Non-UK including delivery £15.40.
Shipping discounts apply for multiple orders and are calculated in the cart.

Details of the case and its design can be found here.

What you will receive

The RasPi case kit will be sent out in a durable reinforced box. Inside it will be a ziplock bag containing the acrylic pieces. You will need to peel off the protective paper from both sides before assembly.

The kit also includes 4 bolts and nuts to hold the case together, plus one spare nut and bolt – I know how frustrating it can be to lose one and not have another to hand. These bolts and nuts are only a 2mm thread, so quite small.

Tools you will need

A small philips screwdriver is needed for the four bolts. You may also need a small tube of superglue or other clear adhesive to secure the cradle parts together, although with care they can be assembled without adhesive. Please take care when peeling the paper off these parts as the cradle parts are very delicate. If they break then use superglue to glue them back together again.

The curved slots underneath are if you wish to use an elastic band to secure the case to your monitor column or other surface.

The two very small holes are for use with M3 bolts instead of an elastic band.

There you have it, your own chic designer Raspberry Pi acrylic case. Enjoy.

    • Hi Peter. More cases are on their way. When they arrive and know they are good to go I will reopen the ordering on these pages. I was afraid of the amount of orders paid for exceeding the amount of cases ordered, and did not want to take money prematurely for items I can not ship soon.

Those that prepaid I will ship to as soon as the cases arrive to me.

Happily there will be some left over for new orders and I will then open the order form again and hope people will buy them.

  1. Case is fantastic, looks great when its assembled, I particularly like the rounded styling on the side pieces.

One small issue with the instructions above.

The longs strips of the cradle have a long and a short piece at either end of the strip, your diagram shows that one has long pieces and one has short.

    • Suggestion…

Would it be possible for the thicker upstands on the shorter cradle pieces, to be thicker and have a notch cut out that the circuit board could slip into? I think this combined with the SD card, would keep the board more stable in the cradle… Just a suggestion.

      • I hear what you are saying, Scott. It would be nice to eliminate any rattle, but the board designer certainly left us with a real problem as there are few places where we can grip.

I could add notches to one piece, so that it could slide onto the PCB from the card end. On the other piece it is not possible because there is a connector one side and the audio socket on the other. It won’t slide on from the SD card end because of the HDMI and video sockets.

        • even one notch would add a degree of stability as you assemble cradle and PCB I would assume, that part of the assembly was by far the hardest bit for me

    • Yes Scott the instruction page got adrift of the latest batch, which had the two pieces the same height.

I have already ordered another batch of cases and made the two pieces different sizes again.
